Stephen Anderson was born in Rugby, England in 1957 and educated at Lewes Priory School and Cambridge University, where he graduated with a masters degree in History in 1980. Stephen joined HSBC in 1981 and since then his career has seen him living and working in eight countries; Hong Kong, the UK, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and the Sultanate of Oman. Stephen was Deputy Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Singapore and Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of HSBC Turkey where he implemented successful whole business reengineering projects. However, the largest part of his career has been devoted to risk management in one form or another. Most recently he was the Chief Risk Officer of HSBC Bank Limited and HSBC's Global Businesses, respectively HSBC's largest legal entity and largest business lines in terms of RWAs. In January 2011 Stephen moved from London to Hong Kong to establish a Global Risk Audit function for HSBC. He is a regular speaker on risk at external events. Stephen maintains a keen interest in history, as well as sports, music, theatre, travel, hiking and food.
