The 18th Annual Asia Rail Congress held in Kuala Lumpur from 15-16 November 2011 was a resounding success, welcoming nearly 130 delegates from 14 different countries.
Over 80% of delegates were from Asia, with the largest representation being from Malaysia, while 11% came from Europe and the rest from other parts of the world. 37% of delegates were from rail operators, while 45% were General or Regional Managers, Managing Directors and Directors, VPs, Chairmen, Presidents and CEOs.
The Asia Rail 2011 Congress was officially opened by the Hon. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Chairman of the Land Public Transport Authority (SPAD) who gave a welcome address and delegates were given an update on Malaysia’s rail plans for 2012 and beyond.
Other speakers throughout the two days covered regional MRT & LRT updates, high speed rail developments, strategic and sustainable transport planning, communication-based train control, passenger safety, design and construction of multi-modal hubs, and marketing and customer service innovations in airport rail links.
